Joe Magee to Seek Progressive Party Nomination for Ward 3 City Council
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 8, 2021
BURLINGTON, VT -- Today, Joe Magee announced that he will be seeking the Progressive Party nomination to represent Ward 3 on the Burlington City Council.
Growing up in Vermont and a graduate of UVM, Magee has been a Burlington resident since 2013. He currently serves as the Vice Chair on the Burlington Board of Tax Appeals. Since 2015, Joe has been committed to progressive movement building, taking time away from UVM to travel the country for Sen. Bernie Sanders' first presidential run. He has since worked to advance racial, economic and climate justice through his work on numerous local and state Progressive campaigns. Joe is a member of the LGBTQ+ community and uses he/they pronouns.
Living in Burlington, Magee has seen first hand how the city has strayed from its tradition of protecting our most vulnerable. Affordable rental housing is scarce, and the dream of buying a home in our city becomes more unattainable for working families year after year.
Magee said the following in a statement:
“I want to thank Brian Pine for his decades of continued service to the people of Burlington. I look forward to the conversation we will have over the next week, as Progressive caucus-goers decide who will represent Ward 3 on the Council.”
“For years, we have seen Burlington transform into a city that responds to the concerns of the wealthy and well-connected, while leaving everyone else behind. If elected, the community beyond election day, and be a responsive voice in City Hall for the working families of the Old North End.”
“So much work has been done to make progress on racial justice, but we need to go much further. Every policy considered by the council must actively further the goal of dismantling systemic racism.”
